Day 1: Arrival in San Jose
Arrival in the Capital City of San Jose.
Day 2: San Jose - Dominical - 160 km
After visiting the BMW dealership, we head off on our great adventure. We’ll start off on the famous Cerro de la Muerte Road, which offers smooth curves and gentle rises up to an altitude of 3,500 m. In the late afternoon, we descend into the laid-back, beach town Domincal, where we will overnight. Feel free to enjoy a cocktail, as the sun sets on the pacific.
Day 3: Dominical - Parc Manual Antonio - 50 km
We'll take the morning to explore the region's waterfalls, hikes, and tropical seaside. In the afternoon, we make the short ride to Manual Antonio Park. The atmosphere of this peninsula is heavenly, with winding roads, hilly overlooks, and cool sea breeze.
Day 4: A Day to Explore
From our base camp, Costa Verde Hotel, which boasts that there are "more monkeys than people", you have the option to explore the park on your own. Take this free day to enjoy the surroundings at your own pace.
Day 5: Manual Antonio Park - Playa Nosara - 300 km
Say goodbye to the winding roads of the coastal peninsula, as we jump on the paved Pan-American highway 2. We'll cover a large distance, but the scenery remains stunning. From the smooth asphalt road, look out to see the Pacific Ocean and rolling green hills, blanketed in lush fruit trees. For the last 30 km, we will ride off-road until we reach the secluded beach town of Playa Nosara. Accommodation tonight is at the Harmony Hotel.
Day 6: Free Day
It would be a shame to leave Playa Nosara without taking a full day to enjoy it. With its long sandy beaches, lack of tourists, and constant waves, Playa Nosara is great place to learn to surf. For more experienced surfers, the morning and late afternoon waves offer a greater challenge. Other activities include: canopy tours, horseback riding, sunbathing, and yoga. For those who can't get enough riding, the surrounding country offers excellent off-road riding. Challenge yourself by riding muddy jungle tracks or sandy beachside roads.
Day 7: Playa Nosara - Playa Tamarindo - 65 km
Day 7 is a treat for those who enjoy off-road riding. We'll ride to Playa Tamarindo via a dirt track along the sea. Crossing small rivers and makeshift bridges, this road, which is only accessible to ATV or motorcycles, runs for 50 km along the sea. After passing through uninhabited coastal areas and remote villages, we arrive in Tamarindo, a small town, with fine sand beaches and a very hospitable community.
Day 8: Playa Tamarindo - Rincon de la Vieja - 90 km
Having enjoyed several days on the coast, we head inland, towards the high country. We will overnight at Hacienda Guachipelin. Take the late afternoon to hike to nearby waterfalls or horseback to the top of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano.
Day 9: Rincon de la Vieja - La Fortuna de Bagaces - 75 km
The road will take us east, with a stop at the picturesque llanos de Cortes Waterfall. Stretch your legs on a short 1 km hike to the thundering falls. Fell free to take a refreshing swim in the misty falls. From there, we continue to the Miravalles Volcano, which is famous for its thermal baths. After a week of riding, the thermal baths are a great way to relax and refresh. Completely regenerating!
Day 10: La Fortuna de Bagaces - La Fortuna de Arenal - 100 km
Faithful to its reputation, the Lake Arenal ride will fulfill your expectations. After taking in breathtaking views of the lake, we'll take a pleasant ride down the north shore, through bamboo stands and exotic vegetation. Look to the southern end of the lake to see the majestic Arenal Volcano. If you're lucky (or patient) you might get a shot of the volcano, though its typically shrouded in clouds. We overnight at the Nayara Hotel, an enchanting place with private terraces, a wine bar, and outdoor showers.
Day 11: Free Day
Take advantage of the many activities offered by the Nayara Hotel. Some options include: a sky trek canopy tour, white river rafting, horseback riding, and bird watching.
Day 12: La Fortuna de Arenal - Volcan Poas via Bajos del Toro (80 km)
We will depart early for the Poas Volcano. Reaching the volcano at 2,800 m above sea level, we will stop to gaze at its massive crater, filled with a turquoise lake. Then, descend down the volcano towards Bajos Del Toro, where we will overnight at El Silencio Lodge.
Day 14: Adios!
Come back and see us again! Maybe next time join us on our Peruvian tour.
